Stuff My Daughter Says

Miss A says something pretty much every day that cracks me up or is very thoughtful so I thought I would post some things from the past couple of weeks:

Miss A:Where's Daddy goin'? 

Me: To Giant to get some food. 

Miss A: Ooh! They got giants there!?

 

This one really made my day-

Miss A: You are wonderful, Mommy. You give me snacks & candy & put me to bed & drinks & bread & butter and...and...and...You my sweetie!  (Then she topped it off with a hug!) 

 

Overheard one night while E was reading to A: 

A was laughing and saying, "This is cracking me up!"

E tells me she got that from me.

 

One day recently, I was wrapping some packages and there was a pair of scissors on the table and one of those packing tape dispensers (the one with the sharp edge on it). Miss A kept trying to grab at the scissors and the tape dispenser so I kept telling her no and not to touch anything on the table. She got angry and declared:  "I never get to do anything!"

You know...I am sure one day she will tell her therapist all about how I was such a mean mommy because I wouldn't let her play with sharp things. 

 

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,
All I want for Christmas is for my almost 3 year old to not poop in her undies. I'm really tired of cleaning yucky undies and poopy legs and feet.  (Even though those legs and feet are really cute.) I could also do without finding poop on the tub and floor and wall when my daughter attempts to finish in the potty what she started in her undies.

Our First Real Snowfall

Apparently there was a little bit of snow last Friday but it wasn't here in our neighborhood and it was a light dusting so it doesn't really count. :-) Today's snow? That was for real. I didn't even know it was going to snow till I saw it on someone's FB page about 30 minutes before it started...that's sad, isn't it? I didn't even check the weather on my cell phone first.
We had plans to go to our mom's group Christmas party playdate but I decided it would be safer for us to stay home and play outside in the snow instead! We got about 1-2 inches. It was wonderful hearing FJ's "oohs" when he saw it for the first time as last year he didn't really notice it. Miss A couldn't wait to get outside in it...she wore a coat I was given for FJ so that was nice to have a waterproof jacket for her.

Miss A sang...er...rang a little bell and sort of sang along with her class and the older class at CBS last week. It was really cute and so much fun to see her on stage with her friends.

Christmas Parties

We had two parties to attend this month. One was the first weekend of December and I took this snapshot with some friends, from left-Merrie, Carrie (the hostess), me, Jen:

 For E's work holiday party we took an up close snapshot together but I had to take it off the blog because E doesn't like how he looks in it. So, he scanned the photo the professional photographer took at the party so I could put that one on instead:

E's work party was so incredible. His mom watched our kids over night for us so we got a full night's sleep and had a delicious breakfast the next morning. But the party? It was wonderful! The food was amazing and lots of fun!

Chanukah was early this year! It started December 1st and commenced on December 9th. We did our gift exchange with E's family even earlier than that though because of scheduling conflicts. So we actually got together Thanksgiving weekend.
The kiddos had fun with the family and enjoyed opening presents, talking to family, and exploring Grandpapa's house.

Perhaps it's because I didn't grow up celebrating Chanukah and it's relatively new to me (I've only been celebrating for about 7 years), but I absolutely love the colors...the silver...the blue...they appeal to me...they are so simple and beautiful.

I also cherish the prayers that we read each night. In a season of commercialism, Chanukah actually helps me focus on the reason for the season of Christmas and helps me center on the Lord each night after a very busy day.  At one of our recent CBS meetings, the question was how do you keep the focus on Christ during the Christmas season. I said that celebrating Chanukah helps me do so knowing that Jesus celebrated Chanukah also known as the Feast of Dedication (John 10:22-24) and taking that moment to pray out loud with my family other than at meal times and bedtime helps me bring back my focus.

I love the connection that Christmas and Chanukah are both celebrations of miracles. Not to mention that while Christmas can get very busy and crazy with parties, and shopping, and cards and whatnot, Chanukah is so simple.
