Six Months Old Today!!
Audrey is 6 Months Old today!!! She was born on a cold Friday and here we are 6 months later in the middle of a very hot summer. I took some pix of her today that I will post later. Today we went to a Mommy and Baby yoga class with our friends Lindsley and her son Zaden who was also born on January 25th! We then went for a long walk afterwards and Audrey fell asleep. Tonight we went to a house in Leesburg and served dinner with our small group to a group of women who live in the shelter there. We had not been there since December when I was still very pregnant. It was good to see the women there and talk to the children. Two little girls there wanted to hold Audrey. So, I got them to take a seat next to me and they each got to hold her and really enjoyed it. Audrey did great while they were holding her and she looked so big in their arms! She is actually petite but looks so big in a child's arms. Now, we are home for the night and she is in bed. For the past few nights she has been going down for the night at 9:00...is this the start of a new routine? We hope so, but we also know, all too well, that just as soon as Audrey falls into a routine, she changes it up on us!

6 Month Checkup
Today was Audrey's 6 month checkup-tomorrow she will be 6 months old!! I can't believe it!
Audrey weighs 15 pounds and is 24 3/4 inches long. Her head measured 42 cm. She is in the 25% for height, the 30% for weight, and the 50% for her head circumference. She smiled a lot at the nurse and was very chill when the doctor came in to the room. We had never met this doctor before but she was very nice and had a very sweet disposition. She enjoyed Audrey from the start! She noticed that Audrey was very laid back and she attributed that to her having parents who are laid back. :-) The doctor also thought Audrey was very cute and had such pretty eyes. As blue as Audrey's eyes are right now she doesn't think her eyes will be brown but they could still change to green. Audrey got two vaccines today-one oral and one shot. She had her paci in her mouth during the shot so she didn't cry as much as last time. She also did better with swallowing her oral vaccine. I just wonder why vaccine makers create a vaccine that is oral for babies when they must know that babies have a tongue-thrust reflex that pushes everything out of their mouths! Audrey did swallow most of her vaccine today but it was with the help of the paci and the patience of the nurse. Each time the nurse squirted some of the vax in her mouth, I put the paci in to get Audrey suckling so she would swallow the vaccine. Some of it still squirted out the sides of the pacifier. So, now we are home and Audrey is playing with her toys on a blanket in the living room. I am going to go and play with her now!

Trying Rice Cereal for the First Time
Last Tuesday, the 15th, I decided to give Audrey rice cereal. She has only had breastmilk since she was born. (There was one exception at MaryBeth's wedding. Evan had to give her formula because I wasn't there and so he could get dressed and get to the wedding in time.) She still can't sit up on her own and she still has the tongue push reflex so I am not giving it to her on a regular basis yet. But Evan got out the video camera and digital camera and we got some great footage and pics! She was really into it even if a lot of the cereal ended up on her bib! She would open her mouth when the spoon came near and she was very content and didn't get upset. She even flapped her arms a little when I gave it to her the next day. So, here are some very cute pics of her getting fed rice cereal for the very first time:

Yes, as a matter of fact, I AM crunchy!
It is true-I am crunchy or frunchy, which is what I prefer. :-) According to diaperswappers.com, crunchy: "is like super nutty...not what our modern day society considers normal. It's like an alternative to saying you're nuts! It's kind of used for natural, earthy, or renounced lifestyles, because these kind of things seem so strange in a modern world full of 'conveniences'."
Frunchy, according to frunchymama.com means: Fashionably Crunchy. The person looking for a balance between natural and traditional. It's a practical approach to parenting- one that helps save time, money, and stress ~ while still maintaining many of the convenience items we have grown up using.
So, I am frunchy but I don't mind being called crunchy too.
Examples of this: we recycle, we buy organic foods, we use reusable grocery bags, we use cloth baby wipes, we use earth-friendly disposable baby wipes and cleaners, and we cloth diaper.
Yes, in the day of disposable diapers and disposable pull ups and disposable wipes and disposable every thing else, we choose to cloth diaper. We do keep disposable diapers and disposable wipes in the house for vacation purposes, for when all the cloth are in the wash, or when someone else besides us is watching Audrey.
But we researched cloth diapering before we had Audrey and really put a lot of thought into it. We decided on the One-Size Bum Genius 3.0 diapers. We bought our first 3 from cottonbabies.com and waited till Audrey was 3 months to try them out. We knew we would be going through tons of diapers at first and knew it would be hard to cloth diaper a newborn with just trying to transition having a baby at home! So, around 3 months I tried it out on her one day when we were home all day. I figured that was a safe way to start. I also had a Bumkins all in one diaper and a DryBees pocket diaper. I enjoyed doing it so I tried again a couple of days later after I had washed my 5 dipes. I continued to do this until Evan saw how much I was enjoying it and we decided to order 6 more Bum Genius diapers. We found the best deal on diapers.com. They give free shipping with orders over $50 and we had a $10 off coupon. I ordered 6 more from them,however, only 5 came in the mail and one of them had a mark on it. :-( So, I called them up right away and told them. They said they would send out the missing diaper plus a new one to replace the one with the mark and I could keep the one with the mark on it! I loved their customer service! For those who are interested, diapers.com sells 3 types of cloth diapers but they also sell gdiapers ( a nice hybrid of cloth and disposable) and regular disposable diapers.
Anyway, once I got those 6 dipes in the mail, I really started cloth diapering more and a few weeks ago I actually took some cloth dipes with me when I took Audrey to our exercise class. Before that I would only use disposables when were out but I got a nice wetbag to put her cloth diapers in and now use them when we are out. I also use Kushies flushable liners. These are paper liners that you lay in the diaper and they protect the lining of your cloth diaper. I love these liners and they make cloth diapering cleanup much easier. The great thing is that they are flushable and they don't clog your toilet.
Cloth diapering can be expensive at first but once you get into it and buy some great diapers, it will save you money in the long run not to mention a whole lot of landfill space.

Rolling from back to front
She did it!!! Today Audrey rolled from back to front after lots of hard work!! She started trying it a couple of days ago and got about 75% over. Today at our playgroup she got about 85% over while she was on the floor. I put her in her crib tonight and she rolled all the way over from her back to her tummy while she was in her crib. I know the crib does help give her some momentum but I am still so excited!

Putting her feet in her mouth...literally!
Yesterday, we had a playdate in the afternoon at our friend-Carrie's house. While we were there, Audrey was laying on a blanket and she pulled her feet all the way up to her mouth so she could suck on her toes! This was a first! She had leaned over to her toes last week and got them in her mouth but she hadn't pulled her toes to her mouth until yesterday. Yay for milestones! Thankfully, Carrie got a picture of her doing that. When she sends me the pic I will post it.

Cape May, Grabbing and Other Stuff
For the past 2 weeks, Audrey has been grabbing at things that are put in the vicinity of her hands. If I put a toy in front of her, she will grab for it and bring it to her mouth. We were just on vacation last week at the beach in Cape May, NJ. While we were at dinner one night, she put her hand in my soup! I also had to make sure I moved plates and silverware out of her reach. This is totally new! I haven't had to do this until lately.
She is definitely more into toys now. She enjoys looking at them and holding them and of course, putting them in her mouth!
She sits up well when she is propped up by pillows. Last week, I noticed that when she starts to lean forward, she is able to lean on her hands or arms and hold herself up for about 30 seconds to a minute!
Another thing I noticed last week was that when she leaned forward she found her toes and started sucking on them! It was so cute!!
So, last week we were in Cape May and it was beautiful! We took Audrey to the beach 3 times. The first time was just to let her see the ocean. But the other two times, she had her swim suit on. We put her little toes in the sand but we didn't put her in the water because it was freezing! She napped a couple of times when we were on the beach...the ocean sounds lulled her to sleep while I held her.
We took the BOB (our jogging stroller) with us because the sidewalks in Cape May are so uneven. But Audrey didn't enjoy being in the stroller very much so Evan ended up wearing her in the Baby Bjorn a lot of the time and she loved it! She would giggle and coo when she was in there because she just loved being held and getting to look out. Evan's mom said it was like walking for her so that must be why she enjoyed it so much!
