Happy Father's Day!

We went to brunch at Clyde's with my father-in-law and sister-in-law this morning. F.J. fell asleep on me and we were able to transfer him to the booth and laid him down and he took a good 30 minute nap! We would have never been able to do that with Miss A.

To my husband, E-thank you for being such a loving papa to our children. Thank you for praying over each of them every night before they go to bed. Thanks for doing a duet of "Jesus Loves Me" with me every night when we sing to Miss A.  Thanks for changing poopy diapers, changing poopy undies as we are potty training our 2 year old, cleaning up messes, and laughing through it all. I love you, sweetness!

My little 8 1/2 month old pulled up in his crib today! He's actually standing straight up now rather than kind of bending over while standing. I can't believe this little man! He has even tried just holding on with one hand. He's just such a boy!

What a 2 Year Old Wears

If you have a two year old, then you may have this same scenario in your house....
Miss A frequently puts on a hodge podge of clothing.  We have been potty training again for the past week...I've had her in undies for a whole week now so she is frequently just wearing a dress and undies or a shirt and undies to make the pottying process easier.
Because she's in outfits like that, she also likes to add other accessories or items of clothing so we often see her in mish mash outfits that she has assembled such as these...

Yogurt Finger Painting

I read online about yogurt finger painting using plain yogurt and food coloring. So, during F.J.'s nap, I brought out the ingredients and grabbed a cutting board we don't use anymore and took Miss A out to the deck for some fun. I put her in her new toddler-size bib that I am loving because it doubles as an art smock.
No one mentioned how messy it would be opening up the food coloring and how much of it would end up on my hands, the table, and the deck itself. So, I poured out the yogurt on the cutting board-

Then added the food coloring-

Gave Miss A a spoon-

Yet, she only played with it for about 5 minutes...yep, she bored with this activity quickly and got out of her chair and walked over to some plants and pulled them out of their pots.
So, I brought the yogurt inside and took a photo of the beautiful colors-

I can't believe she didn't want to play with this more but maybe she's too young for this to appreciate it right now...maybe I will try again in a few months.

Conversations with Miss A and F.J.

In the vein of All Things Family and Parents to a Princess, I am posting on some funny things heard around our house lately:

On Monday, F.J. said his first word! It was really quiet but he said "ba-ba"and he said it a few more times. I thought it was "mama"but it was "baba". :-)

This was a cute conversation recently with Miss A-
Miss A was looking at herself in the fridge and she said, "I am a person."

My response: "Yes, you are a person!"


Last Sunday, I asked Miss A, "Where are we going this morning?"
Miss A: "Uh-weeziana!" (Louisiana) (We were actually going to church!)

Yesterday, I told Miss A that we were going to run errands and she immediately said she wanted to see her cousin, Nate. She thought I was talking about going to see Aunt Arien!

A Day with Poppy

This past Saturday, we met up with E's grandpa in Maryland. Poppy planned the day for us and it started with feeding lots of ducks. After that, we took Miss A over to a playground and she had fun letting go of some energy there. Then we took a walk and Poppy treated us to lunch at Panera.

It was such a fun time with Poppy. Miss A enjoyed feeding the ducks with Poppy so much that when it was time to walk over to the playground she reached out for Poppy's hand! It was so sweet and I got the best picture of it too.

Homemade

I love homemade things! Ever since I started to sew, I appreciate all the hard work that goes into making something by hand.
I have a few photos to post of one homemade item I bought recently, two that were made as gifts for Miss A and one I have made.
I bought a couple of diapers online made by some WAHMS and I took some photos of F.J. in one of his new diapers that is just so cute.

While we were in Louisiana, Ashley's mother-in-law made Miss A two items of clothing: a dress and a bikini! The dress was made before we arrived but when I saw the bikinis she had made for someone else, I oohed and aahed over them and she offered to make one for Miss A with her initials on the front. So here's the dress:

She's playing in the sprinkler in our backyard and she loved wearing her new suit-

I want to start making felt food for Miss A to play with in her free kitchen that I got from a friend. (The kitchen may not stick around though as E thinks it's too big to keep in our house.) So, I tried my hand at making a green bean...I actually tried hand sewing for the first time! Here is Miss A holding the new green bean:

Now, I just need to make a lot more food to go with that one lonely green bean!

8 Months Old!

F.J. turned 8 months last week and here is his monthly post-
According to our scale at home, he weighs 17 pounds and I am now at my pre-Miss A weight-YAHOO!!!!! I think that is because this little guy loves his mama's milk so much!
He is 27 3/4 long and his head is about 44 cm just like last month.

If you noticed in my LA trip post, he is now getting up on his knees and he is even pulling up/pushing up to standing from time to time!!! He did this just today in his crib! I think E will be lowering his mattress very soon!

He has also started to chatter...no real words yet but it's starting to sound like he's talking.

In case you were wondering about the scratch on his eyebrow...he hit it on the fireplace at my grandparents' house while we were in Louisiana. :-( It was his first major "ouchie" and he was very upset when it happened. He cried a lot and it did bleed a lot but it finally clotted and he calmed down and fell asleep when I nursed him.  I felt so bad for him and it was so hard to see him get hurt but my friend, Ashley, told me to just get ready because this is the "world of boys"!

Toddler Bed!

Miss A slept on a crib mattress on the floor in Louisiana while we were there. There was another 2 year old in there too (Mr. A.). This was the perfect transition for her to a toddler bed because she actually did very well while we were there and stayed in the room. So we decided to convert her bed the day we got back!  We decided it was now or never! Here are some photos-

Important note-if you are considering buying a Pottery Barn Kids crib and want to buy the conversion kit...don't do it! It's a joke. The "kit" is just a wooden bar that you put on that gives it a more polished look but it's not a guard rail and it means you are not able to use your crib skirt. You can see E putting it on in one of the pics but then we decided to take it off and just keep our crib skirt on the bed. It looks much better this way! It's a huge waist of money to buy the kit and by the time we realized it, it's 2 1/2 years too late to return it.

Louisiana Trip

We went to Louisiana May 26th- June 1st. We had a heck of a time getting there because of a crazy long delay in Dallas combined with actually being put in the air and then being diverted back to Dallas!! It was a very busy trip and we visited with lots of family and friends and loved seeing them miss everyone so much! We had a wonderful time staying with my friend Ash and her husband and boys. They were such great hosts and our kids had a blast playing together each morning and night.
